This means two processor cores work inside a Core 2 Duo in parallel.
The Core 2 Duo, which was introduced on July 27 2006, is the direct successor of the Core Duo. Each core is based on the Pentium M micro architecture. Compared with the old Netburst architecture of the Pentium 4, the cores in the Core 2 Duo have shorter pipelines. As a result, the maximum clock rate is lower but the performance per clock is significantly higher. Thus a Pentium 4M with the same clock rate is up to 40% slower.
Both, the notebook Core 2 Duo and the desktop Core 2 Duo are based on the same processor. However, the notebook version runs with a lower voltage (0.95 to 1.188 volt) and a lower front side bus (1066 vs. 667 MHz). As a result (and because of slower laptop hard discs) the performance of notebooks is about 20% lower than their desktop counterparts with the same clock rate.ey Features
64 bit support
Dual core processor with shared level 2 cache
Execute Disable Bit
Partially Intel Virtualization Technology (VT)
Socket M (starting from Santa Rosa socket P)
291 million transistors

Intel Core i7 I7-920 Quad Core Processor

Check out the most significant architectural change in the x86 architecture in 13 years, the Intel Core i7. Intel has completely reinvented their CPU design, removing the antiquated Front Side Bus and replacing it with the Intel QuickPath Interconnect, delivering up to 6.4 GT/s. Also the Core i7 line is the integrated memory controller, supporting Triple Channel DDR3 Memory allowing for more maximum memory, up to 24GB on some boards, and faster access times. Located directly on the CPU die is 256KB per core of L2 cache and 8MB L3 cache shared across all four cores means the CPU can do more without having to access the main memory, further increasing performance. However I was able to load Ubuntu Linux without a problem. I'm also able to use RAID 1 via dmraid. It discover and activate software Intel matrix storage RAID.

I also own Dual CPU Dual Core - AMD Opteron 2212 server. This box is now moved to local data center. It is mainly used for serving web pages and developing stuff. Overall I'm quite satisfied with my new computer. The two chipsets that preceded the P45, the X38 and X48, were mainly intended for high performance motherboards, though Asus has used the chipset for some more tame boards like the P5E64 WS Professional workstation motherboard, which sports an X38, and the P5E64 WS Evolution, an X48 version of the same motherboard. Like the P35, the P45 seems like it will be a good platform for a wide range of boards, from economy to performance.

I recently reviewed the Gigabyte EP45-DQ6, Gigabyte's mainstream P45 motherboard. It appears to be a stable, reliable board, something that a mainstream motherboard should be. The P45 market is already getting a little crowded, with something for everyone.

Today I am looking at the Asus P5Q-E, one of Asus' three budget-minded P45 motherboards, this one supporting CrossfireX, with two x 8 slots, and one x 4 slot (the primary PCI-E slot is x 16 when a single video card is used). It also sports heatpipe chipset cooling, and other features we'd expect only on Asus boards costing much more, all with an energy-saving theme. How will this board stand up to the requirements of enthusiasts? Read on to see.

Packaging

The P5Q-E comes in a box similar to most Asus economy boards, an unsleeved box smaller than their mainstream or gaming motherboards, in a shiny metallic blue motif. The box is covered front and back with features and specs.

Inside, the motherboard is separated from the bundle by a cardboard divider. The motherboard is on the bottom, in a static-free envelope.

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Family

<table class="infoTable" id="ctl00_ctl00_MainContent_cphMain_gvProducts2" style="width: 100%; And AMD recently launched their quad-core "Phenom" platform as well. So why not do a full quad-core comparison? Two reasons really.

First of all, AMD typically has production issues when introducing a new product, and thus usually have very few samples to go around. The Phenom was no different - they weren't even able to launch the processor running at speeds they'd originally intended. So they only work with a handful of sites on reviews (and many of those didn't even get samples of the Phenom, but were flown in to see benchmarks being done by AMD themselves).

About5 years ago, back in the AthlonXP days, we sort of gave AMD a hard time for launching products that were not available in stores for quite a while after reviews came out. This was known as a 'paper launch'. In an attempt to be funny, we took liberties with their logo designand their"me" marketing slogan. Although the image was well received by our readers (and other webmasters), AMD wasn't too pleased with it. We apologized, and noted that it was indeed against their terms of service to modify their logos. Because of their stock issues, we basically got moved down to the bottom of the list of websites they wanted to work with. Ever since then, we've had to buy our AMD processors to review. This usually means we're quite a few days behind on most processor launches, because it still takes a while for new AMD products to show up on store shelves. It really sucked to have to buy a 4600+ for around $300 for the Core 2 Duo review, only to seeits price was essentially cut in half the very next week. We weren't going to be late for Intel's most important CPU launch in years though.

So to answer the question; we haven't bought a Phenom yet, so we can't review it until we do. We'll have one soon enough though, possibly once AMD is able to get a faster one out there.

The second reason is a price issue. Sure, quad core systems provide a huge speed boost in many instances. But for many people, $250-300 is still too much to ask for a CPU. In terms of gaming, dual core is sufficient, and for the same price you are able to get a dual core CPU with a higher clock speed.

Sponser Link

Citrix® GoToMyPC® Corporate Give your team the ability to work from anywhere.

Sell apps with Windows® Marketplace for Mobile.

HP StorageWorks products-control, consolidation and confidence.

Cut your network security costs with Panda Managed Office Protection -- Download Your Free Trial Today!

The HP Officejet Pro. hp.com/go/colorforless

BlackBerry Professional Software-find out more

Get the AT&T 3G LaptopConnect Card on the nation's FASTEST 3G* Network

FREE shipping and No Payments for 90 Days on all New Fujitsu LifeBook Notebooks and Tablet PCs.

Toughbook for a Toughworld™ In your world, only the tough survive. panasonic.com/toughbook

Iomega NAS. Intel declined to take up AMD on its offer, but the challenge got us thinking: what would the results of a dual-core desktop CPU fight look like? Many people equate Windows PCs with Intel Pentium processors (and soon will likely be doing the same with Macs), but we've seen dual-core CPU AMD systems power ahead of dual-core Intel-based PCs on more than one occasion.

To answer the question once and for all, we circled up a bunch of cars in an abandoned parking garage and set ourselves to a no-holds-barred dual-core desktop CPU fistfight. AMD submitted its five dual-core CPUs, and Intel matched with its lineup of four. We built two test beds as nearly identical as we could for the two platforms and ran each chip through a battery of tests. We then ran those results through our price-vs.-performance calculator to find out not only which is the best overall dual-core CPU in terms of raw performance but also which one offers the most bang for your buck. Skip ahead to the official ruling if you want, but the match itself is interesting.

Million Dollar Memory

The two 128Mb memory modules from the test machine. Current Australian price, a jaw-dropping $AU900 each. Perhaps some dealer's got pricing that's closer to the current $US250 or so for PC800 128Mb modules - with the P4 launch, I'm sure someone down under's going to start shifting RIMMs in a bit more bulk - but as I write this, Aussie RDRAM prices are still preposterous.
You can spend a lot more than $AU900 for 128Mb of PC800, if it's ECC memory (of which more later) with a fancy brand name on it. Even if you opt for basic PC600 modules, you're still talking $AU650 for 128Mb.
The abovementioned $US250, by the way, is just the low price I found on Pricewatch.com, after discarding the first few really dodgy options. Big-name US dealers, as opposed to deep-discounters with unknown morals, are selling PC800 128Mb modules for more than $US300.
So even if you buy from the States, I really can't see you getting modules to match these two for any less than $AU1200.
$AU1200 will buy you six decent PC133 128Mb SDRAM DIMMs, as used by most top of the line P-IIIs, at the moment. Or two DIMMs, an 800MHz Pentium III, and a good motherboard to put it on. With change.
What's so great about Rambus memory to justify the big prices?
Well, it's got a ton of bandwidth compared with ordinary SDRAM. But that's not as big a deal as you might think, and to understand why, you'll need a quick primer on the technology involved. I know I did.
So that you can share my pain, here's Rambus Memory 101. Pay attention, people.
Biggs! I hope you brought enough of those for everyone!

Intel Mobile Pentium 1200

Intel Mobile Pentium III-M microprocessors were based on the last Pentium III core - Tualatin. Mobile Pentium 3 processors were produced at speeds ranging from 400 MHz to 1 GHz.

Intel Processor Xenon

Pentium III Xeon family was manufactured using two different cores:0.25 micron Xeon processors are based on Tanner core, which is very close to Pentium III Katmai core. The main difference between Tanner Xeons and Katmai Pentiums lies in the size and operating frequency of level 2 cache: the Xeon CPUs have much larger, up to 2 MB, L2 cache running at CPU frequency, that is twice as fast as Katmai L2 cache.Next generation of Xeon processors was produced using 0.18 micro technology. There were two different versions of these processors - with 100 and 133 MHz Front Side Bus frequency. All Xeon microprocessors with 133 MHz FSB were in effect Pentium III Coppermine processors in Xeon package. Like desktop Pentium III CPUs, they had 256 KB level 2 cache integrated on the processor core and didn't support quad-processing. Performance of these Xeons was no better than performance of desktop processors. Later Intel released real Xeon processors that could work in 4-way systems and had very large, up to 2 MB, L2 cache. The disadvantage of these processors was lower FSB - only 100 MHz.All Pentium 3 Xeon CPUs were packaged in the same bulky and heavy 330-contact SECC cartridge as Pentium II

Intel Processor 1000

1 GHz256 KB L2 cache370-pin FC-PGA2 package

Intel Processor 600

New generation of Intel Pentium III processors with Coppermine core featured not only better manufacturing technology (0.18 micron as opposed to 0.25 micron for Katmai core), but also different cache architecture and new package type. Smaller size of the new core allowed Intel to put level 2 cache on the the same die as the core. While new cache was two times smaller than the L2 cache on Katmai processors, it was twice as fast and had a few additional performance improvements. Because external cache chips were no longer required for the new core, it became possible to put the core on smaller and cheaper Flip-Chip Ping Grid Array package.

Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor

Designed from the ground up for extreme competitive gaming and HD multimedia on the fly, the Intel® Core™2 Extreme processors are the world's highest performing quad-core¹ and dual-core² mobile processors.
